Most members will be aware that over the past week or so we have lost two of our dear friends.
It is with great sadness that I have been asked to let you know that Steve Toms & Rob Dandy have both passed away recently.
Steve was poorly for some months and succumbed to further complications in hospital with his wife Mandy & his sister by his bedside. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Steve was a stalwart Committee member for many years, a first class Snooker & Billiards referee and a friend to countless members over the years. Our hearts reach out to dear Mandy, family and friends at this very difficult time. Spare a thought also for his Copnor teammates especially Scott who has been Steve’s mate since early childhood. The Copnor A&E team will be renamed Copnor ST in Steve’s honour.
Steve’s funeral will be held at Portchester Crematorium (South Chapel) on Wednesday 22nd April at 11.30am. Flowers from family only and any donations please to British Heart Foundations or Diabetes UK.
All are welcome to celebrate Steve’s life.
Dear Rob has also passed away peacefully with his family by his bedside. He was ill for sometime.
The ‘Dandy’ team has featured in our Snooker Community for many years & as captain we always got a warm welcome from him on match nights. He too will be sorely missed and our hearts extend out to his family, friends and his Dandy Teammates especially his son Paul. Many members will have their own recollections of when they met Rob. A true gent.
Rob’s funeral will be on 23rd April the day after Steve’s also at the Portchester Crematorium 3.15pm. The wake will be held at the Broad Oak Social Club.
Two big characters have left us but we stay to continue playing week in week out but we’ll never forget them.
Rest in peace Dear Steve & Rob
