PORTSMOUTH WINTER SNOOKER

DIVISION 2

Copnor D have started well in Division 2 as they had it all their own way when they went on their travels to Cowplain beating the Cowplain X team 10 – 2.  It was all Copnor from the start as Mick Hall, Steve Green and Tim Coombes all win braces.  Dave Glover also ended on a brace as he took his team well over the winning line and a good night for Copnor.

Bellair X had home advantage as they took on and beat Broadoak 8 – 4.  It started well for the Broadoak as Simon Munday with a 57 break won jis 2 frames.  Phil Andrews, Lee Harding and Archie archer all won a brace each for Bellair to see them over the winning line, to give them a great result and a home win.

Emsworth B went on the road to Waterlooville C and came away with a narrow 7 – 5 victory.  The 1st 2 games were draws and then Paul Merrett stepped up the tempo as he won his brace of frames to give Emsworth just the edge.  The next 3 games were also draws so Broadoak just came away with the win.  Highlight for Waterlooville was Mark Pitman making breaks of 30 & 41 in his draw.

There was no separating Pompey Royals and Cowplain Gas as they fought out a 6 – 6 draw.  Craig Skeggs got the Cowplain off to a winning start as he won a brace.  This was cancelled out by Barry Woolley as he did the same.  Tony Lee gave the Royals the edge going into the last game as he won 2 frames.  For Cowplain Terry Lees held his nerve and won his 2 frames in his match to level it up on the night with the points shared.

DIVISION 1

Copnor A & E had home advantage as they took on Bellair A, with Copnor on the right side of a 7 – 5 victory.  Mark Tillison for Copnor played well in his winning of a brace of frames.  Jamie Wilson for Bellair levelled it up on the night in his 2 frame win making breaks of 46 and 52.  It was left upto Copnors captain Scott Compton who played well to win his match and take Copnbor past the winning post but only just.

Emsworth A had home table advantage as they beat Portchester X 7 – 5.  Mark Kingswell for Portchester won a brace, but his was cancelled out by Nick Fegan and Gavin Mengham as they did likewise.  The rest of the games were draws so Emsworth just edging it n the night and claiming the points.

Post Office enjoyed home table time as they beat Craneswater R 10 – 2.  For Posties Barry Turner, Frank Sammutt, Jamie Farrow and Rio Smith all won 2 frames each to put the night well into the hands of the Post Office team.

Waterlooville Bananas travelled to Craneswater A and came away with a 7 – 5 result.  Ben Cotton with a 42 break for Bananas played well in his brace of frames and won both.  This was backed up as Wayne Rendle as he did the same winning both of his frames.  Ian Carter for Craneswater got his team back in the tie but the Bananas slipped their way past the post to take a narrow victory.

DIVISION 3

ABC were on their own tables and made it pay as they beat Alex B’s 8 – 4.  Matt Sheath won his 2 frames in his win and this was helped with Karl Davies winning his frames.  The rest of the games levelled out so the 2 players got them over the line.

Broadoak Xcels entertained Cowplain Misfits and just came out on the correct side of a 7 – 5 win.  Dave Wheeler and Wayne Laxton both played well for Broadoak as they both won their games with a brace each.  Dave Weedon and Ryan Houghton got the away side back in it as they won both their games.  It was left upto Jason Russell for Xcels as he kept his nerve and won a brace to send his team past the winning post.

Copnor E and Broadoak Dandy’s couldn’t be split as they played out a 6 – 6 draw.  For Copnor Adam Osbourne was on form as he made breaks of 35 and 32 in his 2 frames to win.  Karl Swanborough won his match to level it up for the Dandy’s.  Dan Walter got the Copnor team back in front as he won 2 frames but at the end Darren Swanborough spoilt the party as he won his 2 frames at the end to send the tie level.

In the last tie of the night Havant B and NEBC couldn’t be split as they drew 6 – 6.  Mike Dorey played well for NEBC as he won his brace of frames.  Clive Harbottle levelled it up for Havant as he did the same.  Havant got in front as Mark Slingsby won his 2 frames to give the Havant side the edge.  Derek Sandy went on last for NEBC and he won his brace in his win and levelled the tie on the night, and a good night it was.
