PORTSMOUTH WINTER SNOOKER
DIVISION 3
Copnor E had home advantage and made it pay as they beat Havant B 9 – 3. Adam Osbourne set the pace as he won his brace for Copnor. Jarrod Hawkins for the Havant Club got them back level as he did the same. John Wyatt and then Stacey Wearn got Copnor back in front and then at the end Dan Walter made the night complete as he also won a brace to comfortably take Copnor over the finish line.
Broadoak Xcels went on the road to ABC and came away with a good 9 – 3 victory. Father and son Wayne and George Laxton got the Xcels off to great start both winning 2 frames each. It was at the end when Xcels got better as It was a family night as Sam Laxton won his brace and with a 74 break and this was backed up by Dean Russell who also won his match to make sure that they had a good night. The highlight for ABC was at the end as Karl Davies won his match.
Broadoak Dandy’s and Cowplain Misfits couldn’t be split as they fought out a 6 – 6 draw. Ioan Moon for Dandy’s won his match but this was cancelled out by Misfits Ryan Houghton who did the same to keep the misfits still top of the league.
There was no separating Havant Club A and NEBC as they battled out a 6 – 6 draw. Paul Jewkes and Mark Mottershaw got the Havant club off to a good start but back came NEBC as James Burgess won his brace of frames. It looked like Havant were going to come out top but, captain Adrian Pledge held his nerve and won his brace to level the match and on the night.
DIVISION 2
Waterlooville C entertained Bellair X and it was the away team who won 8 – 4. Phil Watson, Gary Wilton and Lee Harding all won their 2 frames each and that was the edge as they never looked back and got over the line. The plus side for Waterlooville was that of mark Pitman who won his brace but it fell short of the line as Bellair came away with the points.
Cowplain Gas remain top of the table as they brushed aside Cowplain X in a club derby. Neil Stewart, Paul Lees and Gary Swatton all won their matches for Cowplain Gas. The highlight for the X team was James Curtis who also won a brace, but just came up short.
Pompey Royals had home advantage and it paid off as they just beat Broadoak 7 – 5. Lance Cornwell got the Broadoak team off to a good start as he won 2 frames. It was near the end where Royals played well with Tony Lee with a 30 break and Jim Guest both won their matches to creep just over the line. Paul Chivers in his drawn match also made a 30 break.
Emsworth B and Copnor D fought out a tussle with Emsworth just edging it 7 – 5. Paul Merrett for Emsworth won his brace but this was cancelled out by Mick Hall who won for Copnor. Steven Cutler held his nerve at the end for Emsworth as he won his match to take the Emsworth team over the line.
DIVISION 1
Post Office kept on top of the league as they beat Portchester X 8 – 4. Frank Summitt, Barry Turner and then Jamie Farrow with an 85 break all won their frames for the Posties. Mark Kingsell won his match for Portchester but it was all in vain.
Waterlooville Bananas went on the road as they visited Bellair A and came away with an 8 – 4 victory. Jamie Wilson for Bellair won his match and it was in the 2nd half of the night that the Bananas made no slip ups. Ollie Rendle won his match and that was equalled by Wayne Rendle as he did the same. Ben Cotton for Bananas won his match at the end to give his team the points.
Copnor A & E and Emsworth A couldn’t be split as they fought out a competitive draw 6 – 6. For Copnor Mark Tillison got his team off to a good start as he won a brace with a 36 break. Nick Fegan for Emsworth levelled it out as he won his match. Gavin Mengham gave the Emsworth team the edge and needing a frame but the captain for Copnor Scott Compton kept his nerve as he won his match to level it on the night.
In the last tie of the night, it was a battle of the Craneswater teams as the R team took on the A team and there was no separating them in the 6 – 6 draw. Paul Garside and then Lyle Croft got the R team off to a flyer but this was soon cancelled out as father and son Mick and Rob Kirby both won their matches to level on the night.
