PORTSMOUTH WINTER SNOOKER
DIVISION 1
Bellair A just came out on top with their encounter with Copnor A & E with a close 7 – 5 victory. It started well for Copnor as Scott Compton with a 35 break and Mark Tillison with a 37 break, both won a brace and then Bellair hit back with Dan Lumsden and Shaun Croxford both winning their matches for their team. Jamie Wilson won his brace to seal the victory and, on the way, making breaks of 97 and 31.
Waterlooville Bananas held their nerve as they beat Craneswater A 7 – 5. The difference between the 2 sides was Lee Rendle for the Bananas as he won both of his frames to seal the win. Top break of the night went to Wayne Rendle as he made a 68 break.
Emsworth A went on the road to Portchester and came away with an 8 – 4 victory. Nick Fegan got Emsworth off to a flyer winning his match but this was cancelled out as Jason Tame did the same. Richard Chapman and then Wayne Brenchley got the Emsworth team past the post by also winning their brace of frames.
Craneswater R entertained Post Office and it was the away side who just edged it 7 – 5. Anthony Mitas Pahitas got the home side off to a good start as he won a brace. Matt Paffett for the Post office got them back level and it was at the end where the Post Office had Shane Dorma to thank as he kept his nerve and won his 2 frames to take them over the line.
DIVISION 2
Emsworth B had home advantage and made it count as they beat Waterlooville C 9 – 3. Wayne Talley, Jim Baldwin and then at the end Steven Cutler and Paul Merrett 40 break, all won their 2 frames each to get them past the post and a good night for the Emsworth team. Highlight for Waterlooville Rich Burnett won his 2 frames with a 31 break and Mark Pitman making a 39 break for Waterlooville in his drawn match.
Copnor D had home table advantage and beat Cowplain X 9 – 3. It was all Copnor as Tony Bushnell, Steve Green and then Tim Coombes all won their matches and to cap a good night, Dave Glover for Copnor made a 63 break in his drawn game.
Cowplain Gas entertained Pompey Royals and ended the night on the correct score of 8 – 4. For Cowplain Neil Kirby and then Neil Stewart both won their games to give them a great start. Tony Lee for the Royals won his match but back came Paul Lees for Cowplain to extend their lead. Tony Lees at the end won his brace to seal a good night.
Broadoak and Bellair X couldn’t be split as they fought out a 6 – 6 draw. Simon Munday and Andy White piled on the pressure as they both won their singles. It was at the end where Bellair gave thanks to Lee Harding and then Gary Wilton both winning a brace of frames to level it up on the night.
DIVISION 3
NEBC had home table advantage as it proved it right as they beat Cowplain Misfits 8 – 4. For NEBC Mike Dorey, Jay Burgess and then Adrian Pledge all won a brace each. Dean Bates for the misfits was the highlight as he also won a brace.
It was the battle of the Broadoak teams as the Xcels took on the Dandy’s with the Xcels just winning 7 – 5. Tony Horton got the Xcels off to a good start and this was backed up by team mate George Laxton who won his 2 frames. Ioan Moon for the Dandy’s won his match of 2 frames but it was too late by then.
Havant A went on the road and came away with a close fought 7 – 5 victory against ABC. Paul Jewkes won his 2 frames for the Havant team and this was backed up as Mark Goble did likewise. Alan Freemantle won his 2 frames for ABC.
In the last tie of the night, Havant B took on Alex B’s and they couldn’t be split as they fought a 6 – 6 draw, For Alex b’s Danny O’Sullivan got his team in front with a brace but this was cancelled out by Roy Simon who for Havant B levelled it on the night and both had to settle for a draw.
