PORTSMOUTH SNOOKER LEAGUE WRITE UP
DIVISION 3
Broadoak became champions of this league after their 10 – 2 victory over Cowplain X who finished in the runners up spot. For Broadoak Simon Munday started the evening off to a brace of frames in his win and this was backed up by Mike Harmer, Andy White and Lance Cornwell, as they also won their games to consolidate their champion title.
Havant finished the season on a high as they beat Alexandra B’s 9 – 3. Matt Goble and then Paul Jewkes got them off to a great start and then Mark Mottershaw got his brace to back his team mates up. Martin Farrer made it a good night for Havant as he also won a brace. The highlight for Alexandra B’s was Tony Norfolk who won his 2 frames, but the night belonged to Havant.
Broadoak Dandy’s went on the road to Cowplain Misfits and came away with a 7 – 5 win. Dean Bates got the Cowplain team off to a good start as he won a brace. Darren Swanborough for Dandy’s levelled the games up as he won his 2 frames. Kelvin Connor for the Dandy’s was the difference in the latter stages as he won his match and took the Dandy’s over the line.
It was the battle of the bowling teams as ABC played NEBC and won only just 7 – 5. James Burgess got NEBC off to a good start as he won a brace. Darren Paffett and Alan Freemantle got the ABC team back in front and that was the difference in the end as the rest of the games were drawn with Matt Sheath for ABC making a 41 break.
DIVISION 2
Craneswater R finished top of the pile as were crowned champions after their 10 – 2 win against Copnor Xcels. Rod McBain, Robbie Parsons 52 break, Joe Rigby 30 break all won their brace of frames. Grant Vernon backed his team mates up as he won his 2 frames and then at the end Martin Richardson with 49 break won his couple of frames. Sam Laxton for Copnor won his brace with a 46 break.
Emsworth B finished in the runners up spot as they had to settle for a draw away to Copnor D. Steven Cutler for Emsworth got them off to a good start as he won his match. Steve Green for Copnor levelled it up before Mick Hall got the Copnor team in front. John Morrison at the end of the night held his nerve as he won his brace and levelled it up overall.
Bellair X had home advantage as made it pay as they won 9 – 3 against Copnor E. Phil Andrews got the Bellair team off to a good start winning his 2 frames. Leah Humphrey levelled it up as she also won a brace. It was at the later matches where Bellair won it as Dave Riddell, Lee Harding and Archie Archer all won 2 frames each to easily take their team over the line.
Cowplain Gas entertained Pompey Royals with the latter winning 7 – 5. Craig Skeggs and Neil Kirby both won their games for Cowplain for a good start. Martin Bell and then Paul Chivers both got the Royals back in it and then it was at the end where Tony Lee held his nerve as he won the decisive 2 frames to edge the Royals over the line.
DIVISION 1
Portchester X had home advantage but was on the end of an 8 – 4 defeat to Waterlooville Bananas. Dan Lee for the Bananas won his 2 frames, but this was cancelled out by Matt James who did the same. Lee Rendle got the Bananas back in front only then for Steve Ball giving the Bananas a lead which couldn’t be beat, to keep the Bananas top of the league.
Copnor A & E had home advantage against Post Office but Copnor fell short losing 7 – 5. Jamie Farrow for the Post Office started well and won a brace. This was backed up by Matt Paffett with a 49 break who also won. Shane Dormer continued the work for the Post Office as he also won a brace. Copnor made it a bit more respectable as both Paul Ashmore and captain Scott Compton both won a brace each.
Emsworth A just edged past Bellair a 7 – 5. Gavin Megham got Emsworth on the winning trail as he won his brace. Greg Jones for Bellair levelled it up on the night before Nick Fegan for Emsworth holding his bottle and picking up a brace in his win and edging them over the line.
In the last match of the night Waterlooville C had home advantage against Cowplain Z with the Cowplain team edging it 7 – 5. Richie Burnett won his brace for Waterlooville before Heath Smith for Cowplain winning his match. Trevor Powell at the end for Cowplain got his team over the line as he won his brace at the end to just win on the night.
