PORTSMOUTH SNOOKER PRLC WRITE UP

It was quarter final stage time with the last 8 teams trying to find a way to get into the semi-finals of this team knockout.

Craneswater R had home advantage as they took on Copnor A & E.  It started well for Craneswater as Pete Parsons won his brace of frames in his win.  The next 2 games were drawn, so Craneswater still had the advantage going into the last 3 games.  Copnor hit back as Lee Eden with breaks of 48, 38 and 36 played well in his 2 frame salvo.  It went down to the last 2 games as Chris Wilson for Copnor and Robbie Parsons for Craneswater drew to leave it on the last game of the night.  Kev Harding held his nerve and brought Copnor into the lead as they went 6 – 5 up.  The last frame went to the Copnor side as they booked their place in the semi-finals with a close 7 – 5 victory.

Copnor will play Cowplain Z in the semi-finals as they booked their place winning 7 – 5 against division 1 team Emsworth A.  It started well for Cowplain as Nathan Hickley won his brace, but this was soon cancelled out as Nick Fegan did the same for Emsworth.  Ben Hounsome got the Cowplain outfit back in front to give them a slender lead.  It was going down to the wire as no team asserted their dominance with the next 2 games being drawn which left it up to Trevor Powell for Cowplain who played Tommy O’Neill for Emsworth.  This match was also drawn which meant that Cowplain edged into the semi-finals.

Craneswater A had home territory as they played Pompey Royals and booked their place in the last 4 with an 8 – 4 victory.  Andy Boulton was on form as he won his brace of frames and with a 54 break.  Royals couldn’t get going as the next 2 games were drawn.  Craneswater reinforced their lead as Rob Kirby with breaks of 41 and 35 won his match and took the Craneswater team on the brink.  The next 2 games at the end of the night were level which meant that Craneswater go through to play Bellair X

Bellair X took on a Copnor D outfit and had home advantage and it paid off as the Bellair outfit won 8 – 4.  Karl Smith for the home team Bellair won his brace of frames.  Dave Riddell was on form as he also won his match and his 2 frames.  These were the 2 players that won on the night as the rest of the games were all level and was the difference in the end in getting Bellair into the last 4 of this cup competition.
