PORTSMOUTH WINTER SNOOKER REPORT
DIVISION 1
It was the last week of the season as the destination of the silverware was still up for grabs.
It was Waterlooville Bananas who became top dogs as they won the league after their 6 – 6 battle with Cowplain Z. Heath Smith got the ball rolling for the Cowplain side as he won his brace of frames. The next few matches were all drawn until for the Bananas ben Cotton stepped up and also won his 2 frames. It was down to the last match with the night still in the balance but this was stalemate with the last game a draw. It was enough to earn the Bananas the title and claim winners’ title.
Post Office claimed the runners-up spot after their 8 – 4 win against Bellair A, who finished 4th. They pushed the Bananas all way but just fell short of the top prize. It started well on the night for the Posties as Liam O’driscoll and Colin Williams both won their matches to put them in a good place. Jamie Wilson for Bellair with an 81 break reduced the deficit for his team but winning a brace. Roy Kellett restored the 4-frame advantage for the Posties as he won a brace. The remainder of the matches were draws and the Posties came through on the night but fell short overall in the season.
Copnor A & E who finished 3rd in the league, had home advantage as they beat Waterlooville C 9 – 3. Mark Tillison won his match with a brace of frames won as did team mate Kev Harding who did the same. Mark Pitman for Waterlooville restored the score as he won his match to reduce the deficit and got his team back in the tie. It was at the end of the night where Copnor did the damage as Lee Eden was on form as he made breaks of 43, 34 and 31 in his match and a brace of frames. At the end captain Scott Compton making a 39 break also won 2 frames.
In the last game of the night Portchester X took on Craneswater A and the teams couldn’t be split as it finished 6 – 6. It did seem that all the game were going to be draws, but it was at the end where the night could have gone to either of the teams. Firstly, for Portchester Jason Tame won his match to just edge his team in front, but this was soon to be levelled out as on the last game of the night Rob Kirby for Craneswater won his brace of frames to even the tie and on the night.
It’s PRLC final next week as Bellair X take on Copnor A & E at Cowplain Social Club, start 7:30pm. All are welcome to watch.
It’s then the start of the 3-ball game as billiards season is upon us, so good luck to all those teams this season
