PORTSMOUTH SNOOKER BILLIARDS LEAGUE WRITE UP

DIVISION 1

It was the start of the Billiard season with 8 teams gunning to be top dogs.

It was a battle of the Cowplain teams as the X team played the Z team with the X team just coming out winners 4 – 3.  It started well for the X team as Pete Gorvin played well as he got to his 200 – 151 points in his win.  This however was cancelled out as Ben Hounsome for the Z team won his match.  Dave Rees for the Z team won his match only just 200 – 193.  George Steere and then Gary Curtis both won their matches 200 – 185 and 200 – 190 respectively.  The Z team had the final say as Trevor Powell won his match 200 – 170 but the X team won the aggregate 1158 – 1120 to take the extra point.

Waterlooville Bananas went on their travels to Copnor A & E and came away with a 5 – 2 victory.  It started well for Copnor as Mark Tillison with a 43 unfinished break won his match 200 – 185.  The next 3 games the Bananas dominated as Ben Cotton, Steve Ball and Wayne Rendle all won and got their 200 points.  Steve Toms regained some normality for Copnor as he won his match 200 – 153.  The last game Robbie Parsons for Bananas won his match 200 – 147 to give them a good start this season.  Bananas winning 1142 – 1032.

Waterlooville C had home advantage as they took on Portchester X and won 4 – 3.  Richie Burnett won his match for the C team as he won 200 – 160.  The Portchester team turned on the heat as they won the next 3 games with Lewis Johnson, Justin Andrews and Matt James all won and got to 200 points.  The last 2 games were won by Waterlooville as Darren Harper and then Mark Pitman who had the biggest win as they both got to 200 with Pitman winning 200 – 94.  This was the difference as the extra point went to the Waterlooville side as they won 1039 – 1029.

Craneswater A won a tough battle against Bellair but only just 4 – 3.  Ian Carter got the Craneswater team off to a good start as he won 200 – 158.  Dusty Tingley and then Steve Scott both won for Bellair 200 – 169 and 200 – 177.  Andy Carter with breaks of 31, 32 and 47 unfinished got it back to level as he won for Craneswater 200 – 126.  Harry Yard with breaks of 33 and 38 for Craneswater got them in front as he won 200 – Gary Wilton.  Danny Lumsden for Bellair won the last match of the night as he won 200 – 175.  The extra point went to Craneswater as they won overall 1121 – 980.  Chris Bishop for Craneswater had the high break of the night making a good 52 but still lost his match.  Mick Kirby with a 41 break also for Craneswater.
