PORTSMOUTH WINTER SNOOKER REPORT

DIVISION 3

It was a battle of the club teams as Alex B’s player ABC and there was nothing to split the 2 sides as they fought out a 6 – 6 draw.  Danny O’Sullivan won his 2 frames to give the AB’s a good start but this was soon cancelled out by Paul Taylor as he did the same for ABC.  Harry Hartley and then Ryan O’Sullivan both won their braces for the Alex Bs to bring them on the brink of a win, but Matt Sheath with a 40 break and then at the end Karl Davis both won their 2 frames each to end the night all equal.

Cowplain X had home advantage when they played Broadoak Dandy’s and they won 8 – 4.  Darren Arnold and Roy Steere started the night well for the Cowplain team as they won a brace each.  James Curtis also recorded a couple of frames as they closed in on the win.  The las 2 were draws but the highlight for Dandy’s was Carl Fuggle who won his match and made the score a bit easier on the eyes.

Broadoak was at home to NEBC and duly made home comforts take its toll as they won 9 – 3.  It was at the start where Broadoak won the game as Simon Munday 31 & 34 breaks, Mike Harmer 30 break and then Mark Restall gave them a great start.  Lance Cornwell also for Broadoak won his match.  Highlight for NEBC was Mike Dorey who won his 2 frames.

DIVISION 2

Emsworth B had a big result against Bellair X winning 11 – 1.  Paul Merrett, John Morrison 32 break, Steven Cutler, Chester Bailey 30 break and Wayne Talley all won their matches.  For Bellair Lee Harding stopped the whitewash as he got a draw.

Craneswater R maintained their good efforts as they won 9 – 3 against Copnor E.  Martin Richardson for Craneswater won his match and this was helped by team mates Joe Rigby with a good 58 break and then Anthony Mitas-Pahita who all won their single matches with 2 frames each.  Adam Osbourne, for Copnor even though he drew made a 30 break.

Pompey Royals went on the road to Copnor Excels and came away with a 7 – 5 victory.  Sam Laxton started well for Copnor as he won a brace.  Tony Lee and Paul Chivers both played well and won their matches, and with the last 3 games being draws Royals just edged it on the night.

Copnor D and Cowplain Gas played out a close contest where they couldn’t be split as they drew 6 – 6.  Captain for Copnor Dave Glover won his brace but, soon afterwards Craig Skeggs for Cowplain did exactly the same.  There was not splitting the players in the other 4 matches and so it finished all square.

DIVISION 1

Waterlooville Bananas remain top of the league after their big 11 – 1 win against Waterlooville C.  Wayne Rendle for Bananas with a 95 break won his brace and that set the trend as ben Cotton, Dan Lee, Chris Potter and Lee Rendle all followed suit as they won a brace each.  Mark Pitman for the C team stopped the whitewash as he drew.

2 of the big guns went head-to-head as Post Office played Craneswater A and the posties winning 10 – 2.  Frank Sammutt, Liam O’Driscoll, Jamie Farrow, Jack Coupe and Matt Paffett all won their matches.  It was at the end where captain of Craneswater Mark Jones stopped the rot as he won his match to put some frames on the board.

Bellair A had home advantage as they went toe to toe with Cowplain Z, with Bellair winning 8 – 4.  Steve Hughes for the Cowplain team got off to a good start as he won his brace.  Simon Tulley for Bellair cancelled this out to level it up.  Greg Jones and Dan Lumsden with a 43 break both won 2 frames each to get them over the line.

Portchester X entertained Emsworth A and they couldn’t be split as they drew 6 – 6.  Matt James with a 33 break won his match and 2 frames for the X men but it looked to be the difference until Nick Fegan for Emsworth kept his nerve and duly won his brace to level it all up. Gavin Mengham for Emsworth made a 48 break.
