DIVISION 1
In the first week of the season Portchester X had the best win as they overwhelmed Waterlooville C 11 – 1. The consolation frame for Waterlooville was Dave Pink who drew his match. Portchester had Adam Gillen, Matt James, Lee Paice, Justin Andrews and Jason Tame who all picked up brace wins.
The are some good teams in this league with 2 heavyweights in Copnor A & E and Emsworth A facing each other with Copnor just edging it 7 – 5. It started well for the Copnor team as Mark Tillison and Chris Wilson both won their matches. Nick Fegan for Emsworth got a brace back but the rest of the games were drawn as Copnor came away with a victory.
Waterlooville Bananas held their nerve as they beat Craneswater A 7 – 5. Steve Bull for Bananas got them off to a good start and with the rest of the games levelling themselves out it looked as it was heading for a win but for Craneswater had Ian Carter to thank as he levelled it up. Bananas had Ollie Rendle to thank as he kept his nerve in the last match to win his game and the bananas the points.
Last year’s champions Post Office won their match against Cowplain Z coming away with an 8 – 4 win. Jamie Farrow won his match for Post Office as did Andrew Rigby to give their side a good start. Cowplain hit back as Steve Hughes won his brace of frames for Cowplain but Matt Paffett won his 2 frames for Post Office to seal the win.
DIVISION 2
It was the battle of the Copnor teams as Copnor D played Copnor Xcels, with the D team coming away with a 7 – 5 victory. Dave Glover with a 31 break for the d team got his team off to a flying start. Sam Laxton levelled the playing field as he won his brace of frames. Mick Hall for the D team was the difference as he won his match to take then D team over the line in a tight encounter.
Cowplain Gas and Bellair had a close battle with the Bellair team coming away with the points winning 7 – 5. Craig Skeggs got the Cowplain team off to a good start as he won his brace. Archie Archer soon cancelled that out as he also won a brace. Nick Kirby for Cowplain made a 33 break in his drawn match, but Lee Harding with a 38 break for Bellair won his 2 frames and that was the difference.
Craneswater R had home advantage as they beat Pompey Royals 8 – 4. Rob McGain making a 36 break won his frames for Craneswater and at the end captain Grant Vernon won his match to take the points on the night.
Emsworth B had the biggest win in this league with a 9 – 3 victory against Copnor E. It was all guns blazing from the start as Emsworth had Wayne Talley, Chester Bailey and Stuart Cutler all on form as they all won a brace apiece. John Morrison also won his match for Emsworth. The highlight for Copnor was that of Adam Osbourne who was the only brace winner, but the night belonged to Emsworth.
DIVISION 3
Cowplain Misfits and ABC couldn’t be split as they played out a 6 – 6 draw. At the start all the first 3 games were drawn until Ray Axton for Cowplain won his match and looked to be the difference until at the end for ABC Matt Sheath kept his nerve and played well as he won a brace and levelled the match.
It was a battle of the bowls clubs as ABC’S took on the NEBC, with the latter coming away with a 7 – 5 win. James Burgess for NEBC won his brace of frames and this was backed up by captain Adrian Pledge who did likewise. Johnny Hartley was on last for ABC’s as he won his 2 frames but the game had gone as Derek Sandy for NEBC drew his match to take the points on the night.
The new kids on the block Havant Club were on the wrong end of an 8 – 4 defeat as they came up short against Cowplain X. Joe Knight for Havant got them off to a good start but this was soon cancelled out as Darren Arnold as he won his match for Cowplain. Matt Goble won his brace of frames for Havant to give his team a slight lead but in the end Cowplain gave thanks to the ever-improving James Curtis and Pete Gorvin who both won their matches to bring the Cowplain team over the line.
