Snooker League to return in October

Hello from Gary Curtis, League Secretary with some exciting news to share.

First, the new website is now fully up an running and so please encourage all your team mates and snooker buddies to add this site to their ‘favourites’. Please practice navigating around the pages which will be populated with the new league teams and fixtures soon.

The committee owes much gratitude to Natalie Dowse, daughter of Ted Dowse from the Cowplain Club. Natalie built the website for us and has maintained it admirably throughout the pandemic. She officially handed it over to us earlier today. Hats off to Natalie for a great job.

The committee have been meeting regularly over the past 18 months via zoom to gauge the impact of the pandemic and agree when we should restart our snooker & billiard leagues. Given the easing of restrictions in July and continuing success of the vaccine roll out, it has been decided we should start a new league from October this year. Naturally we will always judge our decisions on official guidelines to maintain members safety which has been our number one priority from the start.

All captains will doubtless be aware of our plan and so further details will be posted here and direct to captains over next month or so ahead of the restart date. We do not expect the league to fully return to normality straightaway. There will be subtle differences to add flexibility for teams until confidence is fully restored. At least we will all be playing again and meeting up across the green baize which is the true spirit and reasoning behind the first restart league.

I wanted to express my thanks on behalf of the committee to all captains/members for your unwavering positive comments and support for the league. We recognise snooker is fairly insignificant compared to the challenges you have faced from COVID. Our initial aim is to safely bring snooker back and return a little bit of normality again which we hope everyone will welcome. The initial responses from captains and clubs certainly appear to point that way so thanks again to everyone.

So watch this space please. Details about the new league to follow in the coming weeks.

In the meantime take care all

Gary
